Why anyone would hack people on this website?

Yeah, just saw that unfortunately. The art portal was also getting spammed. :/
At least its all deleted now, though I do wonder if the affected accounts could be restored to their (pre-hack) state?

I 'just' wrote a really long reply somewhere else and then the user decided to delete their topic.

Basically: It is _extremely unlikely_ that they "hacked" their way into NG. If you registered many years ago and used the same name and password elsewhere, it's time to change your passwords on NG - as well as for your email. Doing so once a year would be a good idea anyway.

I am not worried. We will lose some great works of art which might never come back - and that is very sad. But the vast majority of users won't be affected. If you see stuff that should be flagged, _by all means flag it_, but 'please' include a line such as "This account was most likely compromised." or "The original upload was likely replaced by hackers."

I'd expect this to go on for at most another 50 or so hours.
